hi how do you select only one channel in stereo mode - hi how do you select only one channel in stereo mode

  • hi i just wanna choose the right channel of the stereo clip

    and wanna editing it...

but when i try to select sound clip

it always select both(left and right) channel

and i just wanna select one of them and edit some features........

    how do you do it??

plz tell me~~ in eng plz....

  • From the Track menu (it appears when you click on the caption on the left of the track) choose "Split Stereo Track". This will create two mono tracks from the stereo tracks which you can edit independently.

Note: Since this forum is dedicated to German language Audacity users, you may want to ask further questions on the audacity-help@lists.sourceforge.net mailing list. Alternatively, the Audacity homepage http://audacity.sf.net/ lists other options for support in English language. Thanks!

  • To edit only *one* channel of a stereo track you *first* have to split them
up into two separate *channel* tracks by "Track menu > Split Stereo Track"
(klick the black triangle at the beginning of the track above the sliders).

Then you have two single tracks called "Left" and "Right" what means they are
still played like a stereo track but you can edit each of them separately.

If you're finished with editing you can *rejoin* them to a stereo track by
"Track Menu > Make Stereo Track" to export them as a stereo file (i think
Audacity does the rejoining automatically by the export function, but i'm
not sure about that, so better you do this by hand).

  • sorry about this ,, but i got just one more question..

when i split track as you describe, and i apply BassBoost to right channel

and suddenly the clip became 16-bit resoultion..originally it was 8-bit

    channel...why is it...so........

  • This is because 16 bit is the "Lowest Quality" Audacity can handle. You can
set the internal quality Audacity calculates with in "File > Preferences >
Quality > Default Sample Format" to either 16 bit, 24 bit or 32 bit float.

If you want to write back a 8 bit file to disk you have to set the "uncom-
pressed Export Format" in "File > Preferences > File Formats" to either
"WAV (Microsoft 8 bit PCM)" on Windows or "AIFF (Apple/SGI 8 bit PCM)
    on Unix.

Then the file on disk will be 8 bit resolution again.
